Pirate week is ending. But I seriously think that this theme is far from over.
I checked out a music CD from the library with Pirate songs for the boys to listen to all week, and they did...ALL WEEK. EVERY DAY. ALL DAY.
You can view the songs on iTunes here.
We started our week with creating our costumes. Using red paint and old white tshirts we painted red stripped shirts. I had some red fabric leftover from another project to use for sashes. Some black velvet fabric to make eye patches. Using black construction paper we folded pirate hats. And of course, red solo cups, black duct tape, a pencil and foil helped to create a hook. Aidan wanted me to make him a pegged leg, but I had to nix that idea seeing how he was willing to cut his leg off. Seriously...
And yes, the toothless pirate is trying to eat Snowball, the new hamster...
That evening, the pirates couldn't resist using their hooks to eat dinner - only they weren't hooks, they were spoons...
We invited some friends over to play with us one day, I think they all enjoyed it.
Using old boxes, they boys played pirates. Each having their own ship. It went pretty well until they decided that the said boxes needed to go into the small pool we have. Yeah, they didn't last long. Although, Aidan stood in one until it took on water, they he was a castaway. MAN OVER BOARD! MAN OVER BOARD!
I gave them some old black fabric and white paint and asked them to paint their own Jolly Roger flags.
Aidan's one-eyed skull:
I even got them to swab the deck too!
Next up, Banana Boats. Need I say more!?
Then one last snack after playing in the sun. Orange boat slices on blue Jell-O.
I gave the boys some pieces of Styrofoam and asked them to create ships. Using LEGO men and pretty much anything they could find, the had pirates sailing the high seas. Then of course, we found a toy shark, and it was all over for those stinky pirates!
Next week: BUILDING WEEK!
